Welcome bloggers!

In the spirit of the Cinémathèque Française, we will use this space to process our emerging dispositions to film and film culture. We will explore film history, methods of storytelling, shots & angles, acting, trends, ideologies, and more.

Blog Creation Instructions

1.) Go to Gmail.com, and sign up for a new gmail account. Be sure to write down your new username and password. Please choose a username that is appropriate for a university course and one that is close to your real name.

2.) To create your blog, choose from your apps by clicking the icon that looks like a small grid at the upper right of your Gmail page. Scroll until you see the icon for Blogger, and choose it.

 3.) Choose "create a blog."

4.) Follow this tutorial. Note: You are NOT required to buy their templates.

5.) Design simply. Choose a reasonably simple template.

6.) Select the Theme and Customize button to make design choices.

7.) If you ever want to change your design, select Design from the upper right of the main blog page. Or, you can begin designing by using the menus you will see at your My Blogs page (clicking the Blogger icon will take you directly there).

8.) Choose Theme, and Customize to see all options. Remember to apply to blog after you decide upon the choices that you like. The apply button looks like a tiny floppy disk icon in the lower right of the page.

9.) Choose wisely. Good design depends upon readability, which includes:

  •  A good amount of "white space"
  • "Openness." Avoid the temptation to overcrowd the page
  • Include images strategically. Choose images to reflect your disposition to the class, to writing, or to some particular thing you're reflecting upon in a post
  • Choose fonts and colors carefully for readability
  • Provide captions for your images, especially if you download them from the Internet and are not using images that you created
  • For your caption text, write "image source" in very small, light lettering. Then, highlight the link icon in your menu options, and paste in the copied URL (web address) from which you found the image
IMPORTANT: Input your new Gmail address and your blog's URL (web address in the topmost address bar) at the approriate Google Doc for your section:
Signing up at these forms is mandatory and will enable me to add you to the course blogroll, making your blogs visible to myself and your peers. Additionally, these documents give you access to your peers' email addresses, which you may wish to use for creating a private readership (if you desire). Ideally, leave your readership set to "Public," as this will ensure that your peers and I will have access to your posts.

I will add your blog to the blogroll based upon the info at the list, and they will roll out over the next few days. Voilá!

How to locate your Blogger Blog's URL
(note: "URL" is a way of saying "address")

1.) Go to your Blogger Blog

2.) Go to
Dashboard

3.) Go to Settings

4.) Go to Publishing. There, you should find your blog's URL. If you have not specified one (if the field that says "Blogspot address" is blank), go ahead and give your blog a name. Choose wisely so that you emit a sense of self that seems appropriate for this course blog

5.) Start blogging! I suggest starting with reflective writing about a picture you like that's currently topmost in your files. Write at least 3 well-developed paragraphs for this and every post you write for this class. Post it and write about what it means to you. Be sure to respond to 2-3 peers' posts

6.) You may compose and "save a draft," so you needn't publish each time you write

7.) Incorporate an images, a video, and/or hyperlinks with each post. At least one illustrative images should serve as the header for each post. Remember to caption with a link to the URL from which you found the image.

8.) Happy blogging!

Note: I will be adding content and resources over the coming days and throughout the semester. This blog is accessible via the internet. I also link it through Canvas.
