🎬 THE 2023 FILM 100 STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL! 🎬

Greetings film enthusiasts!

Welcome to the 2023 FILM 100 Student Film Festival, a showcase of emerging talents from our very own Introduction to Film & Screen, Film 100 course. This semester, our students have embarked on a unique journey - crafting genre-driven or even genre-bending short films that are not only a testament to their creativity but also their comprehension of core course concepts.

🌟 The Assignment

Story, Cinematography, and Cultural Relevance. Dive into the universe of film where stories come alive, shots are beautifully framed, and the narrative resonates with cultural nuances. Our students, with their boundless imagination and teamwork, have created pieces that are both fun and deeply rooted in their academic learnings. And they completed these tasks with virtually no prior filmmaking experience and only 1.5 weeks!

🌟 Key Aspects of Their Projects

    1. Incorporation of Course Content: From crafting the story to the edit room, watch out for references to Moving Pictures and other academic content.

    2. Inspiration From Screened Films: Our students drew inspiration from films they've watched, both in class and as assignments.

    3. Outside-the-Box Thinking: Leveraging academic texts and other external content, these films exhibit a thirst for excellence and growth.

    4. Editing & Presentation Prowess: With some newbies trying their hand at editing and others leveraging platforms like Adobe Express, iMovie, and more, each film promises a unique experience.

Special Note: Post-screening, stay tuned for a brief presentation by the creators. They're eager to walk you through their cinematic journey.

The Essence: Creativity, Collaboration, and Cinematic Aspirations! So, grab your popcorn and let's celebrate the spirit of young filmmakers. Let the reels roll!

Mise en Scène, Anderson, & Hitchcock

These clips offer illustrative content to highlight mise en scène, or what we see within a scene (and why). They also focus on the auteur, or the director, and their directorial curatorial responsibilities. Taken together, considering the auteur and mise en scène helps us reflect upon how a director creates a certain feel or vibe for a film while also keeping form and content in alignment to heighten effects and impact. Each clip explores a particular aspect of one of the two films we have recently watched (in the case of Anderson, many of his films are covered, in brief).

Enjoy these clips to further understand mise en scène and the concept of the auteur. Consider referring to the concepts covered, along with those covered in Moving Pictures as you consider Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette, and Jordan Peele's film Get Out (both films to be screened soon).

Types of Shots & Angles

First, here's a useful overview on types of shots. There are also many useful videos embedded, so check them out to enhance your learning!

This video uses one actor and different shots to show different types of shots. It also features scenes that exemplify a "double" shot (2 actors).

Next, the Close Up:

And here is Studiobinder's take on shots & angles (with useful videos!)

Next, all about Camera Angles!
